Ever wonder how a mischievous doodle becomes a t-shirt that makes cat lovers smile? Today, I’m pulling back the curtain (or maybe the cat curtain) to show you how my whimsical cat art comes to life — from the first spark of inspiration to a finished piece you can wear, hang, or mail to a friend.
It Starts with a Sketch

Like most good ideas, mine usually begin with a pencil and a “what if…”
- What if cat’s were in a classic movie?
- What if a cat joined a rock band?
- What if they were pirates, astronauts, or firefighters?
I try to sketch every day — and every Saturday I share one on social media during my “Share A Sketch Saturday” series. These little drawings are where the characters take shape.
Then Comes the Color and Fun
Once a sketch makes me laugh — or my own cats approve by sitting on it — I go to work adding the color, either by hand using colored pencil, markers and paint, or I scan it and start adding color digitally. My style is bright, whimsical, and just a little offbeat… kind of like the cats themselves.
Turning Art into Wearable Cat-itude
Once the design is complete, it heads to my product lab (aka, my brain + software + energy drink). Some my favorites become prints, others end up on mugs, t-shirts, or notecards — each one carefully formatted to look its best.
I love to see people wearing my art or sipping from a mug with one of my feline friends on it. It’s like the sketch came to life and now it’s out in the world making people smile.
