IT'S ART SHOW SEASON EVERYONE!
It's upon us again, hard to believe we're almost
a month into Art-A-Fair. This is my twelfth year with the show
and its never any easier.
We were framing art until the last minute again.
Our frame shop scans, prints and frames art for a number of
artists in the Art-A-Fair Festival, the Festival of the Arts and
the Sawdust Festival... of course my work always comes last! But
Ron always pulls off miracles under pressure!
He built the most amazing sign this year (that
all the other artists want). You can see the Big Cat from nearly
any angle in the show and it hides the ugly light bar.
The working class cats were framed in a really
cool new industrial rivet style frame that was amazing. Everyone
was stopping to comment on it during opening night.
Speaking of opening night... it was a huge
success. We expected lighter than usual crowds, but the show was
packed wall to wall with art enthusiasts. Many of my regulars
were on hand to wish me luck, and I saw a few people I had not
seen in years!
The student exhibitors did extremely well. The
Art-A-Fair Foundation
provides exhibition space, scanning, printing,
framing and everything else the student needs to set up their
booth and sell. They also coach the students on price points,
marketing and dealing with customers. The students get to keep
100% of the money they make on selling their artwork during the
two month show.
Tammi is at the show often creating new ceramic
pieces. She is currently working on a menagerie of animals
which are fantastic. Jillian's newest work is a custom
painted surfboard with an homage to Marilyn Monroe, we all can't
wait to see it done!
Three weeks into the show and they are selling
out and they're not even selling cats!
The
Art-A-Fair Festival
runs all summer long through Labor Day Weekend. It is truly
the best art show in Southern California. If you go to
their website you can print out a coupon for discounted
entrance. You can also check out artwork by the various artists
in the show and see what entertainment is scheduled. Make
a point to stop by, have a little lunch at Tivoli Two, and visit
the Big Cat in Booth C-19.
